<p>Mumbai: Independent MLC Satyajeet Tambe has raised strong objections over the inadequate representation of iconic Maratha warrior-king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the history curriculum of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). </p><p>“Despite the history syllabus spanning over 2,200 pages from Class 1 to 10, the legendary Maratha king is mentioned in just 68 words,” Tambe pointed out in the Maharashtra Legislative Council. </p><p>“It is highly condemnable,” he said. </p>.After 'sugar boards', CBSE asks schools to set up 'oil boards' to promote healthy eating habits .<p>Tambe welcomed the state’s decision to adopt the syllabus of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) across all schools following the CBSE framework but criticised the glaring omission of a figure of such national importance. </p><p>"Shivaji Maharaj's inspiring life and achievements must be taught not only in Maharashtra but across the country," Tambe emphasised. </p><p>He urged the government to take swift action and questioned the delay in escalating the issue to the Centre.</p><p>“Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is a symbol of pride and valour for the entire nation,” Tambe said. </p><p>“To limit his legacy to just 68 words is not only unfortunate but also unacceptable. While SCERT has submitted a proposal to NCERT, ministers themselves should be leading delegations to Delhi to ensure this historical oversight is corrected.”</p><p>Responding to Tambe’s remarks, Minister of State for School Education Pankaj Bhoyar acknowledged the seriousness of the issue. </p><p>“Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj are revered figures in Maharashtra, and their contributions deserve proper representation in the curriculum,” he said.</p><p>Bhoyar confirmed that Maharashtra’s School Education Minister Dada Bhuse had already met Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi regarding this matter. He stated that the Centre had responded positively and assured that efforts are underway to include a respectful and prominent mention of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the CBSE history textbooks for Classes 7 and 10.</p><p>Assuring the House of the government's commitment, Minister Bhoyar also announced that he would accompany Tambe to New Delhi to follow up on the matter personally. </p><p>“The state is serious about this issue, and all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the rightful place of Shivaji Maharaj in national history education,” he concluded.</p>
