Last Updated 08 February 2016, 20:47 IST

In what could bring a great relief to the aspiring doctors, the Union Health Ministry has begun making efforts to introduce a system of holding single entrance test for admissions to medical colleges in India.

It has proposed an amendment to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, to make provision for holding a common entrance test for admissions to under-graduate and post graduate programmes of medical colleges, accepting a recommendation of the medical education regulator.

A draft cabinet note on the proposed amendment would be placed for approval of the government once views and suggestions of other ministers are received.

“We have recommended for amendment to the MCI Act to introduce a provision for holding a single entrance examination for admissions to medical colleges. We have requested them to get the proposed amendment passed from Parliament,” MCI Jayshree Pranshankar Mehta told Deccan Herald.
