Implementation of the service in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu - including Karnataka and Chennai service areas - has to be postponed since mobile operators requested the Department Of Telecommunication (DOT) more time to upgrade existing networks to enable the facility.

Even the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is yet to announce the tariff for the new service. Mobile Number Portability would let consumers change service providers without having to change their numbers. The government had scheduled its implementation originally by end of September.
