Parliament Highlights | India's biggest 'jumla' was Cong's slogan of 'remove poverty', says Modi in LS
This blog is now closed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the biggest 'jumla' in the history of India was 'Garibi Hatao', a slogan given by former prime minister Indira Gandhi. Replying to a two-day debate in Lok Sabha on the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, Prime Minister Modi said there is a word the Congress likes a lot, which led some opposition MPs to say 'Adani' Modi also said that the Congress, having 'tasted blood', repeatedly wounded the Constitution while his government's policies and decisions since it took office in 2014 have been aimed at boosting India's strength and unity in line with the vision of the Constitution. Earlier in the day, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi cited V D Savarkar's remarks that there was nothing Indian about the Constitution and took a jibe at the BJP, saying that by talking of protecting the Constitution, the ruling party is 'ridiculing' Savarkar. The Lok Sabha has been adjourned till December 16, 11 am. The Rajya Sabha will again convene on Monday after Opposition seeking impeachment of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar led to pandemonium inside the House.
