In a Mysore polling station in 1957, an old illiterate mason told the Presiding Officer that he would only vote for “ladder”.
Ladder had always been associated with him since his youth. He presumably voted for a candidate with a ladder symbol in Assembly.
He refused to vote for the LS as none chose ladder as a symbol.
It took a lot of persuasion by the official to make him return to the polling compartment and vote.
