Quantum of punishment in Ajmer case tomorrow

 A National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court here on Thursday postponed the pronouncement of quantum of sentence in the 2007 Ajmer dargah blast case to
Saturday.

After a brief argument between public prosecutor Ashwani Sharma and defence lawyer J S Rana, NIA special judge Dinesh Kumar Gupta adjourned the matter.

On March 8, the NIA court had acquitted seven accused, including Aseemanand, Bhavesh Patel, Devendra Gupta and the late Sunil Joshi.

During the hearing, the defence counsel argued that the case should not be linked with religion after the prosecution submitted that it was the “first case where it is proved that the members of the community to which the convicts belong are involved in terror activities”.
Public prosecutor Ashwini Kumar said the court should consider that the bomb blast killed three persons and left 15 injured.

According to the charge sheet, outfits associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh are behind the blasts at the Ajmer dargah, in retaliation for the attacks on Jammu’s Raghunath temple and Amarnath Yatra in 2002 by Muslim terror groups.
