The Congress said on Wednesday that images circulating on social media showing Rahul Gandhi's name registered in the non-Hindu section of the visitor's book of Somnath temple in Gujarat were fabricated.

Some media reports said one of the members of the Rahul Gandhi entourage entered his name in the temple’s 'non-Hindu' visitors book alongside Ahmed Patel.

“There is only one visitor’s book at Somnath Temple that was signed by Congress VP Rahul Gandhi. Any other image being circulated is fabricated,” Cong's official Twitter handle stated.

"Rahul Gandhi made an entry into the visitor's book, The signature which is being talked of is different, neither it is the signature of Rahul Gandhi nor was this register ever given to him" said  Congress spokesperson Surjewala.

Entry to Somnath temple has been traditionally barred for non-Hindus. Non-Hindus are supposed to obtain special permission from the temple authorities before entering it.
