Here is all you can expect today at the Republic Day parade

- The parade will begin in the morning with the National Salute and will continue for 90 minutes, reflecting the journey of India's heritage and growth.

- The ceremonial parade will be heralded by 300 cultural artistes playing 'Sare Jahan Se Achha' on musical instruments representing different parts of the country, according to the Defence Ministry.

- Lt Gen Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding, Delhi Area will be the Parade Commander, while Parade Second-in-Command will be Chief of Staff (COS), Delhi Area, Maj Gen Sumit Mehta.

- Two Param Vir Chakra awardees -- Subedar Major & Honorary Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav (retd) and Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar (retd), both Kargil war heroes -- and Ashok Chakra awardee Lt Col Jas Ram Singh (retd) will be part of the parade.

- The flypast will feature 40 Indian Air Force aircraft and three Dornier aircraft of the Indian Coast Guard.

- The parade will see many other firsts as well, such as the tri-services tableau that will depict the spirit of "jointness" among the armed forces. The theme of the tri-services tableau will be 'Shashakt aur Surakshit Bharat' (Strong and Secure India).

- In this year's parade, 5,000 artistes will perform over 45 dance forms from different part of the country in a 11-minute cultural performance titled 'Jayati Jaya Mama Bharatam'.

- For the first time, the performance will cover the entire Kartavya Path -- from Vijay Chowk to C-Hexagon -- to ensure all guests get the same viewing experience.

- Finishing the ceremonial line-up will be Capt Ashish Rana, who will lead a contingent of daredevils from the Corps of Signals with Capt Dimple Singh Bhati, the second-in-line.

Sixteen tableaux from across states and Union Territories and 15 from central ministries, departments and organisations will roll down the ceremonial boulevard during the annual parade when India displays its military prowess and its journey as a republic.

President Droupadi Murmu arrives at Kartavya path along with chief guest Indonesian President.

President Droupadi Murmu unfurled the national flag at the Kartavya Path on the 76th Republic Day.

The flag hoisting was assisted by Indian Navy Officer Lieutenant Shubham Kumar and Lt Yogita Saini. The flag unfurling was followed by the national anthem with a booming 21-gun salute given with 105 mm Light Field Guns, an indigenous weapon system, stationed along the iconic Kartavya Path.

The gun salute was presented by the ceremonial battery of the 172 Field Regiment.

The ceremonial parade is being heralded by 300 cultural artistes playing 'Sare Jahan Se Achha' on musical instruments representing different parts of the country, according to the Defence Ministry.

The Param Vir Chakra is awarded for the most conspicuous act of bravery and self-sacrifice in the face of the enemy, while the Ashok Chakra is awarded for similar acts of valour and self-sacrifice but, other than, in the face of the enemy.

Gujarat guv, CM take part in R-Day function in Tapi district

Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat on Sunday unfurled the tricolour at a Republic Day function in Tapi district, where the police band, stunt shows and cultural programmes filled the atmosphere with patriotism.

Earlier, on the eve of Republic Day, the governor and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel presented a cheque of Rs 2.5 crore to district collector Bipin Garg and Rs 2.5 crore to district development officer V N Shah of the tribal-dominated Tapi district.

BSF apprehends Pak national in Gujarat's Kutch on R-Day

A Pakistani national was apprehended from near the India-Pakistan border in Gujarat's Kutch district on Sunday, the Border Security Force (BSF) said.

The BSF troops sensed suspicious activities near the border fencing in Kutch in the wee hours of Sunday.

The troops searched the surrounding area and apprehended a Pakistani national, identified as Khawar, resident of Badin district in Sindh province of the neighbouring country, the BSF said in a statement.

National flag unfurled for first time in 35 years at Tral in J&K

For the first time in 35 years, the national tricolour was unfurled at Tral in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday as patriotic songs marked the celebration of 76th Republic Day.

Once a bastion of terrorists and separatists, Tral town reverberated with patriotic songs and chants of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' as PDP MLA Rafiq Naik joined nearly 1,000 participants in the Republic Day function.

The residents of the south Kashmir town said it was perhaps for the first time that the national flag was hoisted on Republic Day at the Tral Chowk.

The flag was jointly unfurled by an elderly, a youth and a child, symbolising the unity of generations and their shared commitment to the nation. (PTI)
