Sonia to kick-start poll campaign from Kerala

Last Updated 13 February 2014, 19:23 IST

Congress president Sonia Gandhi will kick-start the party’s campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Kerala on Saturday.

The UPA chairperson will address a special party convention in the presence of Union Ministers A K Antony and Vayalar Ravi, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and All India Congress Committee general secretary Mukul Wasnik.

The Congress is expected to convert the event into a massive show of strength to mark a beginning after a series of setbacks due to factional fights within the party.

This is Sonia’s first visit to the state after V M Sudheeran took over from Chennithala as the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president. Sudheeran, though not favoured by Chandy and Chennithala, was given the nod by the party high command.
