Tamil Nadu CM Stalin receives 'normal' angiogram report, to resume routine within 2 days

Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Thursday underwent a therapeutic procedure to correct variations in his heart rate which was identified as the root cause for his dizziness during his morning walk on July 21, Apollo Hospitals, where he is receiving treatment, said.

An angiogram performed on Stalin also turned out to be normal and he is expected to resume his normal routine within two days. DMK general secretary Durai Murugan said not even a block was found during the angiogram and that Stalin was doing fine.

The DMK President and Chief Minister was admitted to Apollo Hospitals on Monday but he continued to work from his hospital bed and even interacted with government officials via video conferencing on Wednesday.

A health bulletin released by the corporate hospital on Thursday said medical investigations revealed that the symptoms were due to variations in heart rate.

“Based on the opinion of the Medical Experts Committee, led by Interventional Cardiologist Dr. G Sengottuvelu, the Chief Minister underwent a therapeutic procedure this morning to correct these variations,” Dr Anil B G, Director of Medical Services, Apollo Hospitals, said in the bulletin.

“The Honourable Chief Minister is healthy and is expected to resume his normal routine in two days' time,” Dr Anil added.

Stalin was admitted to the hospital after experiencing dizziness during his routine morning walk. One reason cited for the sudden health setback was that he stood for a long time on July 19 following the death of his half-brother, M K Muthu, and did not eat the entire day.

He underwent a slew of tests during his four-day stay at the Apollo Hospitals since doctors wanted to rule out a couple of complications considering his age. “They didn’t want to take any chances. The family let the doctors decide what is best for the patient,” a senior DMK leader told DH.
