Three engineering students have been arrested for allegedly ragging a junior in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, police said today.

A B.Tech first year student of Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET) college at Rajanagaram in Rajahmundry city was allegedly ragged by his seniors last week, Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar said today.

When he refused to follow their orders, the boy was allegedly attacked by eight senior students.

On November 14, when the victim was returning to his home, the eight senior boys allegedly took him to a secluded place and beat him severely.

They also allegedly snatched his cellphone, watch and other items, police said.

Last night, the boy's parents lodged a complaint at the Rajahmundry police station following which three accused - B Chandramoulai, K Balachandramouli and B Sunnykrishna - were arrested.

The other five accused were at large and search was on to nab them.

A case under Andhra Pradesh Prohibition of Ragging Act 1997 has been lodged against the accused, police said.
