The Central government has cleared the delegation’s visit, designed mainly to ask the Rajapaksa government to take immediate steps for rehabilitating Internally Displaced People (IDP) Tamils spread across the refugee camps in the island.

A state government release here said Home Minister P Chidambaram had conveyed the Centre’s decision to clear the visit on Thursday to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
Thousands of Tamils languish in refugee camps in Sri Lanka in appalling sanitary conditions, following the defeat of the LTTE by the island’s government in May.

Led by DMK parliamentary party leader T R Balu, the delegation consists of Kanimozhi -the Chief Minister’s daughter- T K S Elangovan, A K S Vijayan and Helen Davidson of the DMK; N S V Chithan, Sudarshan Naachiappan, J M Haroon and K S Alagiri from the Congress, and Thol Thirumavalavan, MP and leader of  the Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi.
