<p>Security forces on Monday averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused an improvised explosive device (IED) near the railway crossing in Nowgam area of central Kashmir's Budgam district on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.</p>.<p>A police official said that the IED was planted a few hundred meters away from the Nowgam Railway station near a bridge. The rail service between Banihal in the Jammu division and Baramulla in Kashmir division resumed earlier in the day after remaining suspended for 11 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.</p>.<p>“The object was spotted by the Road Opening Party (RoP) of the army and the police team early this morning.
