The group of temples, including the famous Vadakkunnathan, Triprayar, Thiruvanchiyoor, Peruvanam and Chemmanamthitta, besides the burial sites at Cheramanangad and Ariyannoor were sought to be included in the list, Superintending Archaeologist of Thrissur circle of ASI, Dr M Nambirajan told reporters here today.

UNESCO had declared 22 monuments as world heritage. Five natural sites had been listed on the basis of exceptional interest and universal value with a view to protecting and promoting the monumental heritage at the global level, he said.

He said World Heritage Week would be celebrated under the auspices of the ASI and Kerala Historical Research Society here from November 19.

Under the ancient monuments and archaeological sites and remains Act, 1958, ASI had declared 3675 monuments and sites as of national importance.
