On a specific question on whether the US recognised Arunachal as part of India, Roemer initially declined to comment saying, “It’s a bilateral issue and the US is confident it would be resolved. I am an ambassador to India and not China.” But when pressed further, he said the US respected the process of election being held in some parts of India.

“It’s important to see that thousands of people have participated in the elections. And the US respects the outcome of the election in that region (Arunachal Pradesh),” Roemer said.
