<p>Lucknow: Biologists at the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve Division in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur-Kheri district, about 125 kilometres from here, have re-discovered the rare long-snouted vine snake (Ahaetulla longirostris), marking its first ever documentation in the state.</p><p>According to the officials of the Tiger Reserve, the rare snake species was earlier sighted in Bihar and Meghalaya in 2024.</p><p>The officials said that this elusive species has now been found in the Kakrah, RRA-1, (South Sonaripur Range) during a rhino free-ranging operation a few days back.</p>.Case filed over unauthorised installation of Ambedkar's statues on public land in Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi.<p>‘’A sub-adult individual of this slender, vine-like species was spotted during the operation. Its elongated snout, vibrant green coloration, and unique features set it apart from other snakes. Experts confirmed its identity, marking the first official record of this species in Uttar Pradesh,’’ a post on the official instagram page of the Tiger Reserve said.<br><br>This rediscovery highlights Dudhwa’s exceptional biodiversity and reinforces the need for habitat conservation to protect such elusive species. Recognizing its ecological importance, a team of biologists safely released the snake into a suitable environment, ensuring its protection in its natural habitat, the officials said.</p><p>Ahaetulla, commonly referred to as Asian vine snakes or Asian whip snakes, is a genus of colubrid snakes distributed throughout tropical Asia. They are considered to be mildly venomous by some scientists.</p><p>Their enlarged teeth or fangs, intended to aid in venom delivery, are located in the back of the upper jaw, instead of the front as they are in vipers or cobras.</p>
