Vijayakant files nomination, owns asset worth Rs.19.88 crore

Vijayakant’s DMDK party will be contesting in 41 of the 234 assembly constituencies in the state as part of the AIADMK-led front. In 2006 Vijayakant, 58, contested successfully from Virudhuchalam constituency - around 200 km from here - but has now shifted to a safer seat. Rishivandiyam is about 190 km from here.

According to the affidavit filed along with his nomination, the actor-turned-politician owns movable and immovable assets worth Rs.19.88 crore while his wife V. Premalatha has assets of Rs.6.57 crore.

The cash - on hand and in bank - for Vijayakant is Rs.756,090 while that of Premalatha it is Rs.600,000. For the year 2009-10, Vijayakant filed an income tax return for Rs.53.77 lakh and his wife for Rs.12.82 lakh.

According to the affidavit, Vijayakant and Premalatha’s income and wealth tax dues to government stand at Rs.7.5 crore and Rs.1.72 crore respectively. Their appeal for reworking of the tax dues is pending. On the debt side, Vijayakant has a total debt of Rs.2.5 crore.
