'Waiter invited but PM was not': Subramanian Swamy on S Jaishankar going for Trump's swearing-in

Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has once again used his 'waiter' jibe to attack External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar after the central government announced that the latter would be attending US President-elect Donald Trump's swearing-in ceremony in Washington DC later this month.

In a post on X, Swamy said, "My US friends are laughing away at reported India media news that “India has been invited” for Trump’s formal take over as US President."

"Waiter has been invited but PM was not!! Is it not an even bigger insult? Sack Waiter for accepting," Swamy further added.

Earlier, Swamy had alleged that the prime minister had sent Jaishankar to the US to fetch an invitation for him for the swearing-in ceremony.

Jaishankar had visited the US from December 24-29, which was his first official visit to the country after Donald Trump was elected President.

Against this backdrop, Swamy had attacked the saffron party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Modi has despatched Waiter to US and told him to produce an invitation for him (Modi) or else he loses his job," Swamy had said on X, alluding to the inauguration which will take place on January 20.

"But as of now, Donald Trump is not in a mood to invite Modi," the post added.

He had also said that Modi had 'slighted' Trump when he announced that he had turned down Trump's invitation in 2023.

This is not the first time Swamy has attacked the prime minister on social media. In the past he criticised India's handling of China at the borders.

In November, Swamy mounted an attack on Modi on X, calling him a 'liar' and saying that he would have to atone for campaigning for Modi in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, which saw the BJP stalwart become PM for the first time.

"Modi is enraged that I did not agree to being his Birbal—one who attributed all he did to Akbar," Swamy had said in his post, reminding people of Modi's promise to bring back all the black money in foreign banks in the first 15 days as PM.
