Sending out a grim warning over demonetisation, former prime minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said the “worst is yet to come”, and gave a clarion call to Congress workers to wake up and rise against the Narendra Modi government.

Singh said the decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes had sounded the beginning of the end of the Modi government as the prime minister’s propaganda about increasing national income has proven to be hollow.

“Modiji has been saying that he will transform India’s economy. We know now that the beginning of the end has come... But the worst is yet to come,” Singh said, addressing the party’s Jana Vedana Sammelan here. He said it was the solemn duty of the Congress to rise to the occasion and tell the nation about the effects of demonetisation.
