Kanive set to host first women's literary meet

Kanive village is all set to host the Kodagu district’s first Kannada Mahila Sahitya Sammelana (Women’s Literary Meet) on Sunday.

A huge stage is built on the premises of Ramalingeshwara Temple in the village, which is decked up with buntings, Kannada flags and banners.

Write Vijaya Vishnu Bhat, who will preside over the meet, will be taken out in a procession from Huluse Government Higher Primary School to the venue of the literary event.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K Lakshmipriya will flag off the procession. The procession will be accompanied by ‘Chende,’ ‘Dollu Kunitha,’ ‘Veeragase,’ ‘Dolls’ and other cultural and folk troupes.

The organisers have decided not to use plastic during the literary meet. Instead, they will use paper cups and bags to stress on the need to protect environment. The meet will be inaugurated by Akkamahadevi Study Chair President Leeladevi R Prasad. Arameri Kalancheri Mutt seer Shantha Mallikarjuna Swami will grace the occasion.

In the ‘Bhava Sangama’ programme, singers Sumathi, Rekha Sridhar, Indira Ambekal, Lakshmiprasad, Kadlera Tulasi, Prema Raghavayya, Maladevi, Ambika Rao, N P Pankaja, Sumi Subbaiah and Yashoda will take part.

The poets’ meet will be held at 3.30 pm.

Women achievers S G Nayanatara (media), B B Parvathi (education), Ambekal Susheela (theatre music), Suma Sudeep (social service), B L Bhagya (sports), Megha Bhat, Suveditha (young achiever), Sunitha (literature), Laksmi (Taluk Panchayat EO), Milana Bharath (dance) and achievers Baby Chinnappa and Sulochana Prasanna will be felicitated on the occasion.

Hampi Kannada University Vice Chancellor Mallika Ghanti will take part in the valedictory programme.
