Kodagu was recently battered by the worst floods in a century but has now put all that behind to celebrate Cauvery Sankramana.
At 6.43 pm on Wednesday, Cauvery River will burst into life as water will gush out of the fountainhead at Talacauvery - the source of the river, which is the lifeline of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The people of Kodagu will celebrate this year's Sankramana with the same festive spirit and religious fervour as they have always done - a sign of their perseverance.
The district administration is expecting around 50,000 to 60,000 people to throng Talacauvery to witness the 'Theerthodbhava'.
Adequate security arrangements have been made. Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya has directed officials to make the occasion a memorable event for devotees.
"Kail Pold and Madikeri Dasara celebrations were subdued affairs this year but Cauvery Sankramana will be celebrated with great zeal, as the day symbolises Goddess Cauvery's descent to earth," said M C Nanaiah, the district development manager of Nabard and a devotee.
Kodagu has three main festivals, of which Kail Muhurtha (Kail Pold), is a significant one. Cauvery Sankramana and Huttari are the other two major festivals.
