Krishna Janmashtami fete by Iskcon from today

International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Arya Samaja Road, is organising Sri Krishna Janmashtami programme on September 1 and 2 at Koragappa Kalyana Mantapa, Gokarnanatheshwara temple, Mangaluru.

Speaking to reporters, President Karunya Sagar Dasa said that cultural programmes will be held from 4 pm. This will be followed by the prize distribution of the Heritage festival which was held at the Canara High school auditorium, Urva, in August. About 1,000 students from 35 schools in and around Mangaluru had participated in this festival.

Competitions were held for the students of LKG to Class 10, in Bhagavad Gita recitation, colouring, folk dance, essay writing, painting, mime show, vocal music, vedic quiz among others.

About 300 students will receive prizes for different events. MLA Vedavyas Kamath will be the chief guest.

The prize distribution will be followed by a video on Lord Krishna’s birth followed by grand Mahamangalarathi at 9 pm along with Sankirtana chants by all devotees. On September 2, a magic show themed ‘Yogeshwara Krishna’ will be performed by magician Kudroli Ganesh from 3.45 to 4.45 pm. This will be an educational and innovative show, unique from the other shows performed by the artiste as an offering to Lord Krishna.

Saxophone artiste Kadri Gopalnath will perform on ‘Hari Chitta Satya’ from 5 pm to 6.45 pm.

Japa Mantapam, an exclusive 108 step mantap, will be created to facilitate the chanting of the Lord’s holy name. The devotees will chant 50 lakh names of Lord Krishna on the occasion.

There will be a special swing for the baby Krishna and people can offer “Jhulan Seva” to the Lord on September 1 from 4.30 - 8.30 pm and on September 2 from 12 noon to 6.45 pm, he said. Devotees can also offer Pushpanjali Seva to Lord Krishna during the same time on both the days.
