JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda has convinced Prajwal Revanna, his grandson and newly-elected Hassan MP not to resign, Higher Education Minister G T Devegowda said on Saturday.

Prajwal had announced that he wanted to resign so that Deve Gowda, who lost from Tumkur, could contest from Hassan and get elected to parliament.

Devegowda said the party had assessed the causes for the defeat in Mandya, Tumkur and Mysore constituencies.

To a question, he said none of the MLAs would fall prey to any inducement by the BJP.

“The defeat in Lok Sabha elections has taught a lesson to the coalition government,” he said, adding that this would only help strengthen the alliance partners to govern for the next five years.

JD(S) issues gag order

The JD(S) has barred its spokespersons from any form of interaction with the media. This decision, taken at the JD(S) legislature party meeting on Friday, was communicated to the spokespersons by the party’s working president M S Narayanrao.

“You should not issue any statement to the media or participate in panel discussions as spokespersons of the party,” he said in a directive.
