Visa of Bangladeshi actor campaigning for TMC cancelled

Trinamool Congress' campaign in Raiganj Lok Sabha constituency kicked up a storm after Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed took part in canvassing for TMC candidate Kanhaiyalal Agarwal.

According to sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ahmed's visa has been cancelled and he may be asked to go back.

MHA's action came after it received a report from the Bureau of Immigration regarding the incident.

The Election Commission sources said that they are looking into the complaint.

A video of the Bangladeshi actor campaigning for TMC went viral on social media on Sunday, prompting the BJP to lodge a complaint with the EC alleging violation of model code of conduct (MCC) by TMC.

Agarwal denies

"It is a totally illegal act, which exposed TMC's political bankruptcy. How can a Bangladeshi national, who came to India on a tourist visa, campaign for TMC," asked State BJP vice president Jay Prakash Majumdar.

However, Agarwal said that he was not aware of the Bangladeshi actor campaigning for him. "I am not aware of any such thing. I attended two rallies of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and today I was at a roadshow with Transport Minister Suvendu Adhikari," he said.
