MCC to create awareness on pot composting

Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will provide composting pots to 5,000 households to help them decompose wet waste in their houses. This will help solve the problem of solid waste management, Deputy Mayor Muhammed K said.

He told mediapersons in MCC building that MCC would join hands with Ramakrishna Mission and would create awareness among 5,000 households, on pot composting. “The ‘Pot Composting Model’ introduced by Ramakrishna Mission in the city, is being practiced in 450 households.

He said Mangaluru would take part in ‘Swacch Sarvekshan’, the survey conducted by the Union Housing and Urban development Ministry.

The necessary documents in this regard has already been uploaded on the website. The Swacch Sarvekshan team will visit the city between January 4 and February 4, 2019, Muhammed added.

MCC Commissioner Muhammed Nazir said that the public can also take part in the Swacch Sarvekshan online and submit their feedback on the solid waste management and cleanliness. Ramakrishna Mission-Mangaluru Seer Ekagamyananda Swami opined that there was a need for active involvement of people and the City corporation in solving the solid waste management problem.
