Each song lets Vishal reinvent

Music composer Vishal Mishra has been quite busy with projects like ‘Veere Di Wedding’, ‘Race 3’ and ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se’. Since he lent his voice in ‘Munna Micheal’, Vishal has also been singing in Bollywood. That apart, he’s worked in like ‘Tutak Tutak Tutiya’, ‘Friendship Unlimited’ and ‘Qarib Qarin Singlle’ earlier.

In between studio recordings, Vishal took some time off to talk to Anila Kurian about what drives him to continue making good music.

Has the process of working in Bollywood changed over the years?

Nothing has changed from the first project to the ones I’m working on now. I do reinvent and try new things with each of my songs. I truly believe that I met the right people at the right time. And the ones I met are more visionary in their thought processes. So I just look at doing good music as long as I have the fire in me.

So which of the three movies are most excited about?

I’m equally excited about all the projects I do. It’s like a baby is being born every time a song comes out. It’s some exciting times for me and I’m glad the songs from Veere Di Wedding and Race 3 are being complemented by people.

Are you working on anything else apart from the upcoming Bollywood films?

I’m also working on some individual tracks which I hope to release in a couple of months. I’ll be collaborating with a few international artistes as well.

Why did you want to do an individual project?

I feel that when you’re working on a movie, you are guided by the script. But when you are working on your own project, you get to experiment and do it the way you want to.

So how are you managing your time?

Just like I am right now with the interview! I try to find my priorities and channelise my work in the right direction. I came to Mumbai to pursue my dreams and I’m happy that I have been given the opportunity to do that. God has been good to me.

Do you feel pressured to produce good work as there are many other newcomers in the industry now?

It’s definitely bound to be like that but I’m doing alright. I don’t read the comments on social media. I do interact with my fans often but I stay away from negativity as much as I can.

Have you learnt to play a new instrument?

I have actually! Hand drums is a pretty cool instrument and I’ve used that in the title song of Veere Di Wedding. I’m also learning a new instrument called Harpejji.
