An Asian affair with fresh seafood

Mikusu is a fine-dining restaurant at the Conrad Hotel, so there's a certain standard that you expect from the place. And we were not disappointed when we went there for lunch.

Located on the ground floor of the hotel, the ambience was warm and cosy. Offering Japanese, Chinese and Thai dishes, it was an Asian affair that set the afternoon mood right. Some of the light designs had the shape of cherry blossoms too.

I must point out that some of the dishes offered here stood out. The 'Barbeque Chicken' had a cool presentation which we were impressed by. The charcoal grilled chicken with sesame oil was soft, juicy and flavourful.

We also enjoyed the 'Seafood Shu Mai'. My favourites were the prawns and scallop dumpling which not only had the freshness from the sea but the dumplings were so soft. Bonus points for not sticking to the roof of our mouths.

The grilled prawns with teriyaki glaze and togarashi butter made the 'Ebi Yaki' absolutely perfect. The prawns were soft, succulent and we just couldn't get enough of it.

And what's a Japanese experience if we don't try out the sashimis. The platter offered salmon roll, tuna sashimi, salmon sashimi and hamachi sashimi. The platter in itself was absolutely stunning — the colours of the fish stood out in the ice bath it was brought in. We must warn you that this might not be everyone's cup of tea. Sashimi is fresh raw fish that's thinly sliced into pieces. You dip it in soy sauce.

The sushi served was one of my favourites. It was firm, flavourful and interestingly, suited the weather too.

Moving on, this is something that you will love — Thai Green Curry. It is, of course, had with jasmine rice. The curry was creamy which had the hint of spice to it because of the bird's eye chilli added to it.

The 'Braised Lamb' is probably one of the softest meat that I have had in a while. The chilli bean sauce went well with the steamed jasmine rice that we had ordered.

When every other dish came with its theatrics, it was only fair that the dessert plate also had its drama. The 'Five spice flavoured Chocolate Mousse with Orange Compote' was the

perfect way to end the meal.

If you want to try something different, the restaurant is recommended but it can be heavy on the pocket.

Mikusu is located at Conrad Hotel, 25, 3, Kensington Rd, Someshwarpura, Ulsoor. For reservations, call 22144444.
