JOIN USAll of 19, Prithvi Raj Kannambille is a singer, performer, karaoke jockey and sound engineer. He has performed with many eminent singers of Bollywood and Sandalwood.
Prithvi is the youngest singer in the ‘Snehaloka Karaoke Club’, a karaoke club which was started by late Dr Vishnuvardhan. A student of BE from BMS College of Engineering, he is also pursuing a diploma in sound engineering from Audiolife School.
“I've been singing and performing from the time I was 13. I have been studying sound engineering since then too. This has helped me learn the technical aspects of singing right from the basics like how to hold a microphone to other complex factors like recording and mixing,” says Prithvi.
He has performed at several clubs like Indiranagar Club, Bangalore Golf Club, The Koramangala Club , HSR Club and The Eagleton Golf Resort. He has even sung at Palace Grounds, Chowdiah Memorial Hall and Good Shepherd Auditorium. During the weekends, Prithvi performs Bollywood karaoke shows at various venues in the City.
“Music is my identity. Without it, I wouldn’t be complete. It calms me down and helps me during difficult situations,” adds Prithvi.
Prithvi is a trained keyboardist and guitarist. “I play these instruments not just to add to my singing but also get a better understanding of music. Lately, I’ve been using these instruments to programme and compose songs,” he says.
Sharing the experience of singing along with popular singer KK, he says, “I got this opportunity through a movement called the ‘Alive India Movement’. I auditioned and got selected,” he notes. “Apart from KK, this platform also helped me learn from several Bollywood musicians and singers such as Arijit Singh, Kumar Sanu, Akriti Kakar etc. I had the opportunity to sing KK’s award-winning song from ‘Iqbal’, 'Aashayein', along with the singer himself.”
How does he balance music and studies? “I barely get time to concentrate on my studies. Most of my studying happens when I’m commuting from college to home and vice-versa. But my sound engineering class, which is in the evenings, is more like a stressbuster. It is all about music and sound, which are my interests,” says Prithvi.
“My parents have always allowed me to pursue my passion for music and are my inspiration. When it comes to singers, I have several role models like Mohd Rafi , Kishore Kumar, KK and Sonu Nigam. I am grateful to my friends too for sharing my songs as well as giving a critical opinion about them. Their views have definitely helped me improve my style,” says Prithvi.
In future, Prithvi wishes to have a career as a singer, performer, karaoke jockey and sound engineer. He also aspires to work in the field of sound and music.
