Monkey dies of KFD virus in Tarikere

One monkey died of KFD virus in Gopala Colony of Lakkavalli hobli in Tarikere taluk, said Taluk Health Officer Dr Chandrashekar.

He said that two monkeys were found dead in Gopal Colony. The report has confirmed that one of the monkey’s died of KFD virus while another had a natural death.

Speaking at a taluk-level meeting chaired by AC Roopa, Dr Chandrashekar appealed to the residents not to venture into the forest.

“The carcass of the monkey found at Kallathipura has been burnt. There was no virus in the monkey found dead at Vitalapura,” he added.

The health officer said that all the residents living within a five-kilometre radius of Gopala Colony will be vaccinated. The vaccines are likely to reach the taluk shortly.

The Forest Department officials have been provided with DMP oil to apply while venturing inside the forest.

The Forest Department officials will also be vaccinated, he added.

Taluk Government Hospital Medical Officer Dr Madhu said, “A special ward with 10 beds has been opened at the hospital.
