Seven people, including two women, were killed and 15 injured in a road accident on Tuesday morning when a speeding truck hit a Karimnagar-bound state transport corporation bus near Chenjarla, Telangana.

The truck hit Pallevelugu (Rural) bus on the right side at such a speed that the entire portion was damaged. The speeding truck then collided with two two-wheelers before coming to a halt.

The police said the accident occurred on a road that has no divider. “The truck came too close to the bus as the driver was trying to overtake another truck on the narrow road,” they said.

The police and the local people had a tough time removing the bodies from the mangled bus. While there were 40 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident, at least 15 passengers suffered grievous injuries. The condition of at least five of them is serious.

State Finance Minister Etala Rajender rushed to the spot and reviewed the rescue operations. He also visited the hospital and inquired about the treatment been administered to the injured. He also assured that the kin of the deceased will be compensated under government schemes.

On Saturday, 12 people died in a road accident near Gajwel-Pragnapur of Siddipet when four vehicles, including a state transport bus, collided. Seven members of a family who were returning from a pilgrimage died on the spot in that accident.
