Intended to "clean up a corrupt system", the Aam Aadmi Party kicked off its "Jhadu Chalao Yatra" across 24 states Saturday.

The week-long yatra (journey) will be organised at over 2,500 places in 332 parliamentary constituencies across the states, an AAP statement said here.

Intending to connect with the people, the journey is essentially a "clean-up drive against corrupt politicians, criminals and rioters in the parliament", the statement said.

"The 'yatra' aims at publicising AAP's goal at various levels like the Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha, city and village. It will also prepare citizens to achieve a corruption-free India, besides exposing the collusion between the Congress and the BJP to save the corrupt," the statement added.

Party leader Gopal Rai, who will head the campaign, said that party workers and supporters across the country can also undertake the yatra.

"Party workers and supporters can also undertake the yatra through vehicles on which hoardings, loudspeakers and microphones will be put up to reach out to people," he said.

As part of the campaign, party members and supporters will form groups in their respective areas and organise the drive by flashing brooms - the party symbol - and distributing pamphlets.

"The yatra will conclude after the groups converge and clean up a public place like a school or a hospital," Rai said.

"During the journey, forms will be filled to bring new workers under the party-fold," he added
