Affordable housing cannot be overlooked: Shabana Azmi

The issue of affordable housing cannot be overlooked by planners, veteran actress and activist Shabana Azmi said.

"Housing is about equity, justice and democratic rights," Azmi said while launching - 'Chasing the Affordable Dream: A Plan to House Mumbai's Millions'.

The book penned by P K Das, Gurbir Singh, Ritu Dewan and Kabir Agarwal' was jointly released by Azmi and Gautam Chatterji, the Chairman of Maharashtra RERA on Monday evening. The book is published by Bombaykala Books.

Azmi, a former Rajya Sabha member, went on to add: "We have the law, we have the demand, we have the demand... still there is a shortage of 9 lakh homes in Mumbai... we need to have a political understanding and perspective to look at the issue (of affordable housing)."

She said that the issue of affordable housing cannot be left alone to the private sector. Its the state's responsibility as well, the actress noted.
