After MMS episode JNU to re-visit hostel rules

Last Updated 10 February 2011, 18:11 IST

Two students of the university allegedly had made a sleaze video of a girl student in a compromising position with one of them in a hostel room about six months ago while keeping the victim in the dark. The duo, later,  allegedly converted the video into an MMS clip and circulated among the students.

The matter came to light earlier this month when a department of the university submitted the clip to the office of Proctor HC Bohidar.

On the basis of the preliminary findings,  the JNU administration suspended the accused students on Wednesday and said that a committee would be set up to “re-look” into the hostel manual.  “It (hostel manual) needs some change," JNU vice chancellor S K Sopory said, describing the incident as “unfortunate”.

He also felt the need for upgrading security to stop outsiders entering the campus.
On the question of forwarding the case to police, he said, “after the full inquiry report comes up, we may have to hand over this to the police.”

The university administration has issued a circular to all students asking them to destroy the video clip if they are in possession of it.
