Anti-Kudankulam activists have decided to join hands with various fishermen’s associations to protest against illegal beach sand mining in coastal areas.

Fishing community leaders from three districts in Tamil Nadu have asked the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) to continue with its protest against beach sand mining companies, M Pushparayan, a PMANE activist said in a statement.

“We have been asked to carry on our protest against the Kundankulam nuclear power plant (KNPP) and the beach sand mineral mining companies by the fishing community from Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari districts,” he said.

The PMANE leaders have decided to meet Chief Minister J Jayalalitha to apprise her of the disturbing developments in the region.

According to PMANE, the KNPP and the beach minerals mining companies offer freebies and handouts to lure the innocent and silence the opponents.

“Community leaders from the three districts are very clear in opposing both these anti-nature and anti-people operations and bring their omissions and commissions to the attention of the chief minister and the leaders of various political parties in Tamil Nadu,” PMANE said.
