Arvind Kejriwal set to storm Dimple Yadav's bastion

Last Updated 20 November 2012, 17:25 IST

After taking on Union minister and senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid on the latter’s home turf of Farrukhabad, social activist turned politician Arvind Kejriwal is all set to storm Kannauj, the Lok Sabha constituency of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav.

While Kejriwal had taken up alleged “misappropriation of funds meant for the disabled by Khurshid’s Trust at Farrukhabad,” in Kannauj he will focus on the sale of country-made liquor at Teramallu village despite widespread opposition.

According to the members of  “Team Kejriwal”, a public meeting will be held at Teramallu on December 9. Kejriwal is scheduled to announce his political party on November 26 and this will be the first meeting of the newly launched outfit.

“The villagers have been protesting against the grant of licence for selling liquor but the local administration did not pay any attention. We have assured the people that we will take up the issue,” said a team member.

Dimple had been elected unopposed in the by-poll held after Akhilesh resigned to take over the affairs of the state in March. Holding a public meeting at Kannauj assumes significance as the Samajwadi Party (SP) leadership has refrained from using harsh words against Kejriwal though the latter has been criticising the party leaders, including its chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh, for what they allege is going soft on Khurshid.

Post-Kannauj meeting, the SP may launch an all-out attack on Kejriwal’s party which is trying to get a foothold in the state.

Earlier, Kejriwal had addressed a rally at Farrukhabad where he had decried Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi for “promoting” Khurshid in the recent cabinet reshuffle instead of dismissing him.He had also dared Akhilesh to have Khurshid arrested for fraud if he had the courage. “They are all thieves and so they are cousins,” Kejriwal had said.
