BJP MLA: Can 'violate' constitution for Ram Temple

Last Updated 24 November 2018, 13:06 IST

Amid the saffron build up in Ayodhya, a BJP legislator has said that he will not ''hesitate'' in ''violating'' the Constitution if it turned out to be an ''obstacle'' in the way of Ram Temple construction.

BJP lawmaker from Ballia district Surendra Singh made this controversial remark while addressing meetings for mobilising crowd for the proposed 'dharm sabha' of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Ayodhya on Sunday.

Singh said that he would take part in the 'dharm sabha' along with 5,000 people from his home town.

''We will repeat 1992 (the disputed structure was demolished by karsevaks in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992) on Sunday....if need be we will not hesitate in violating the Constitution for Ram Temple,'' he remarked.

Singh, who has earlier also embarrassed his party and government by his foot in the mouth remarks, said that Ram Temple was a ''matter of faith'' for millions of Hindus and that nothing, not even the Constitution, would be allowed to come in its way.

''We are not bothered if the congregation is a threat to law and order situation,'' the lawmaker went on to say.

The opposition parties and the Muslim leaders have already expressed serious concern at the saffron build up in Ayodhya and asked the government to make adequate security arrangements in the temple town.
