BJP to emerge single largest party in Delhi polls: Survey

Last Updated 06 December 2013, 20:17 IST

The main Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to emerge either the single largest party or a clear winner in the just concluded Delhi Assembly elections, a post-poll survey by CNN-IBN, The Week and Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, has projected.

According to the seats tally forecast by Chennai Mathematical Institute director Prof Rajeeva Karandikar, the BJP is likely to win 32-42 seats in the 70-member House.

Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to emerge second winning 13-21 seats, while the ruling Congress is expected to be pushed to third position after 15 years, with 9-17 seats.

Others in the fray are likely to get 1-5 seats.

If the BJP falls short of a simple majority by 3-4 seats, it may look at other parties for support. But, the other parties like the BSP and JD (U) will have to win at least 4-5 seats to prevent a hung assembly.

The survey implies that the voters of Delhi have shown the green signal for a BJP government in the national capital and the arrival of the Aam Aadmi Party as a serious player on the national arena.
