Last Updated 23 October 2018, 19:11 IST

The BJP is targeting young voters in poll-bound Telangana by organising a three-day mega youth summit in Hyderabad this weekend.

The BJP's youth wing Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) chief Poonam Mahajan said the Yuva Maha Adhiveshan was aimed at enlisting new members and preparing the party's young cadre for the Lok Sabha elections next year.

The three-day event, with a valedictory address by BJP President Amit Shah, will also seek to boost the party's prospects in the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections. The BJP has very little presence in the southern states, and is making a determined effort to make inroads in states such as Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu ahead of the Lok Sabha polls next year.

“This will be the party's first mega youth summit in South India and more than 72,000 office-bearers of the BJP's youth wing will attend this event, where they will be addressed by number of senior party leaders and Union ministers,” she said.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to inaugurate the event on Friday and more than two lakh people were expected to attend Shah's rally on Sunday, Mahajan said.

A special “NaMo zone” would also be set up at the venue, where all youth workers would be briefed about the 'Namo App' and how to use it, she said.

Several chief ministers, Union ministers and all former presidents of the BJYM would attend the summit, she added.
