Last Updated 30 June 2018, 17:22 IST

The CBSE has invited nominations from the principals and teachers of its schools for the prestigious national teachers award, conferred every year by the President on those who have made outstanding contributions in the field of teaching.

This comes days after the HRD ministry introduced a provision for self-nomination of the school teachers and principals for the prestigious awards from this year, bringing changes in its rules.

To allow the teachers to submit their nominations online, the ministry also made the entire procedure for selection of the winners of the awards online, rolling out a dedicated web portal.

The last date for filling online application for the coveted awards is July 13.

"The online application can be filled from June 29, 2018 to July 13, 2018," the CBSE said in a statement on Saturday.

The shortlisted candidates will be intimated on July 14, 2018 for uploading supporting documents.

"The entire process of award announcement will be completed by July 30, 2018," the board said.

The number of awards (for the CBSE schools teachers and principals) this year has been increased from the 34 to 48.

"There are 5 awards for principals and the rest for various subject teachers to motivate deserving primary secondary and senior secondary teachers," the CBSE said.

For the first time, 10 awards out of 48 have been earmarked for performing arts, special educators, school counselors, vocational subjects, physical education and IT (information technology) teachers also, it said.

"Top 6 awardees of the CBSE will be recommended by a national level screening committee for the national teacher awards, given by the HRD ministry," the CBSE spokespersons Rama Sharma said.
