Centre doesn't consider Netaji as national hero: Mamata

The Centre still doesn't consider Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as a national hero and is yet to declare his birthday as a national holiday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday.

"I feel sorry that even as the West Bengal government has declared Netaji's birthday as a state holiday but the Centre still has not declared it a national holiday. They still (Centre) don't consider Netaji as a national hero," said Banerjee.

She was addressing a government program in Darjeeling to observe Netaji's birthday.

The Chief Minister also said that it is a matter of shame that so many years after Independence it is yet to be known what actually happened to Netaji.

"We all know Netaji's birthday. But even so many years after Independence we don't know whether he had died. It is still a mystery. It is a matter of shame for us," said Banerjee.
