Committed to Ram Temple: Mohan Bhagwat assures saints

Last Updated 23 November 2018, 10:36 IST

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat reportedly assured the saints in Bihar that he was working towards the construction of a massive Ram Temple in Ayodhya, but refused to give a commitment on the dates.

Bhagwat, who was on a three-day visit to Bihar, met a wide range of people including those from the Sangh, besides saints at Sonepur.

Swami Laxmanacharya, the head of the Gajendra Moksha Mandir in Sonepur, was one of the top saints who met Bhagwat during the RSS chief’s visit to Sonepur. “We told him that the Hindus were getting impatient over the inordinate delay in construction of Ram Temple. Bhagwat said he was committed to the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya and was working towards finding a solution,” said Swami Laxmanacharya.

Bhagwat, however, did not interact with the media here before leaving for New Delhi on Friday.

This was Bhagwat’s fourth visit to Bihar ever since Nitish Kumar formed his government with the support of BJP in July 2017.

The saints told the RSS chief that they favoured construction of Ram Temple through legislation in the ensuing winter session of Parliament. “The saints informed Bhagwat that they were pinning hopes on a private member bill which may be tabled in the Rajya Sabha by Rakesh Sinha for construction of Ram temple,” said sources privy to the talks.

Bhagwat was told by the saints that the Hindu community won’t wait indefinitely for the apex court to decide on this matter. “Bhagwat said he was with the Sant Samaj on the Ayodhya issue and was ready to spread awareness about the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. But he also added that the Sangh (RSS) should try to unify the nation on this issue,” said the source.
