Former Union minister and BJP MP Bandaru Dattatreya’s son B Vaishnav (21) died of a massive heart attack in Hyderabad early on Wednesday.

Vaishnav, a third-year MBBS student, complained of chest pain and collapsed while having dinner with family at their Ramnagar residence on Tuesday night.

He was rushed to the nearby Nanakram Care Hospital at Musheerabad, where he succumbed while undergoing treatment around 1.30 am. "Dattatreya also accompanied Vaishnav...after the doctors said that they will take care, he left for home," a close relative said. Dattatreya was informed about his son's demise around 5 am. Vaishnav has a sister, Vijayalakshmi.

He was actively involved in the BJP's activities in Secunderabad, Dattatreya's parliamentary constituency.
Sources close to Dattatreya said Vaishnav was following a strict diet to reduce weight. “Perhaps, this could be the reason for his sudden heart attack. Otherwise, he does not have any other health problems nor does he have any bad habits,” they said.

While Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow to the bereaved family, a large number of BJP activists reached Dattatreya's residence.

State BJP president Dr K Laxman, BJP leader in the Assembly G Kishan Reddy and Telangana Jana Samithi president Prof M Kodandaram and others called on Dattatreya and his family and expressed their condolences.
