A fire broke out at the government-run Calcutta Medical College and Hospital on the early hours of Monday. The incident took place at the third floor of the MCH building in the hospital premises. However, there have been no casualties in the incident so far.

According to hospital authorities, at around 5 am smoke was spotted coming out from a refrigerator in the haematology laboratory located on the third floor of the building. Soon the Fire Brigade was informed and three fire engines rushed to the spot.

The blaze was brought under control in about an hour. However, no patients were evacuated from the building since at the time of the incident there was no patient on the third floor and the fire did not spread to other floors.

Last year a major fire broke out at the Pharmacy Department in the same building.
