Flood situation in UP grim; toll reaches 58

The flood situation in Uttar Pradesh remains grim on Tuesday with several rivers continuing to be in spate.

The toll in flood and rains related incidents have reached 58 with three more deaths reported from various parts of the state.

Reports said waters of Ghaghra, Sharda, Ramganga and Tons rivers inundated large tracts of agricultural land in Lakhimpur-Kheri, Baharaich, Gonda and other districts, forcing thousands to flee.

The Ganges and Yamuna rivers have been rising at Allahabad inundating many low lying areas. Hundreds have fled Allahabad’s flooded areas.

Experts said heavy rain in neighbouring Nepal resulted in flooding of Sharda and other rivers.
