IIT-M students organise 'beef' fest in the campus

Amid mounting protest across Tamil Nadu to condemn the Union Government's decision to ban the sale of cows and buffaloes for slaughter, a group of students in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras allegedly organised a beef fest in the campus to oppose Centre's move.
 
The feast, which was attended by about 50 students on Sunday night, created controversy with BJP Tamil Nadu unit demanding the suspension of Dean.
 
The beef was served to the students in use and throw away plates. Meanwhile, students and activists of various organisations were arrested in several parts of Tamil Nadu when they staged agitations against the Centre's decision.
 
They also brought beef meat in packets, which was cooked and served free of cost to the people as part of the stir.
 
Apart from students, various political parties staged protest demonstration in several districts, to protest the NDA government's move. which they claim it was an attempt to spoil cultural rights of the minorities.
 
They also said that the Union Government could not decide on what the people should eat and consume.
