Kerala lottery to revive daily draws

Last Updated 20 November 2010, 15:08 IST

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, now in New Delhi to attend the CPI-M central committee meeting, has given the nod to the proposal from Finance Department to revive daily draws, considering the mounting pressure for their resumption from thousands of vendors who eked out a living by selling tickets.

According to government sources, the daily draws would be revived from the first week of next month. The draws of the state lottery was earlier limited to once-a-week.When his comment was sought on the issue, Achuthanandan told reporters in Delhi that the decision was taken in the interest of hundreds of vendors across the state as selling tickets was their only means for livelihood.Meanwhile, state opposition leader Oommen Chandy expressed surprise as to how the government could take a decision on such an issue without the matter coming before the Cabinet.
