Last Updated 12 May 2013, 20:27 IST

Three Kolkata-bound passenger aircraft made emergency landing in Bhubaneswar airport late on Sunday evening due to heavy downpour and bad weather conditions in Kolkata. One aircraft was coming from Bangalore.

“Because of the bad weather conditions, the Kolkata airport did not give permission to the three aircraft to land there. Being the nearest airport, they (the aircraft) were diverted to Bhubaneswar,” Bhubaneswar airport manager Sharad Kumar said.

The other two flights were coming from Raipur and Agartala respectively. Sources in the Biju Patnaik airport here said two passengers in one of these two aircraft sustained injuries while landing as the  plane fell on a turbulent air-pocket. "

Heavy rain

The state capital, too, received heavy rain on Sunday evening.  However, the rain and thundershower had stopped when the aircrafts made the emergency landing.
The three aircraft, however, left for their destination a couple of hours later.
