The family of a 6-year-old girl who was injected with a drug (used to sedate horses) before being raped multiple times and then killed at a stud farm in Haryana, has finally got justice.

The 35-year old accused, Devi Singh, a native of Rajasthan who has three children of the girl's age, has been convicted by the court for rape and murder of the minor girl and sentenced to life imprisonment till last breath in jail.

The Court of the Additional Sessions Judge Yamunanagar, Dr Abdul Majid, pronounced the judgement in record less than 7 months after the trial began. The incident that took place on June 2 last year had shocked everyone owing to the brutal nature of the crime.

The convict raped the 6-year-old three times in eight hours before slitting her throat. Devi Singh worked as an assistant with the veterinarian employed at a stud farm belonging to former Haryana minister Nirmal Singh.

Singh lured the minor girl to an isolated place saying he would take her to her father. Singh then injected the minor with a heavy dose of drug which is used to sedate horses. Singh confessed he did this to avoid the cries of the minor girl.

After several hours when the girl showed some signs of gaining consciousness, Singh panicked and slit the throat of the 6-year-old girl leaving her in a pool of blood. He then dumped her body in a water channel near the farm. Her body was found the next day.

The post-mortem report of the deceased minor revealed the cause of death was multiple injuries including in the neck and genital area. The Judge spared him of death penalty maintaining that the convict has three small children and that the decision could affect them.
