Mysuru Lokayukta SP, driver killed in car-tipper collision

A Lokayukta superintendent of police and his driver were killed in a road accident near Kumbalgodu on Wednesday. 
 
Ravi Kumar (32), posted in Mysuru, and his driver Kiran Kumar (34) were travelling from Bengaluru to Mysuru and were in Ramohalli near Kumbalgodu, around 30 km from the city, when their Swift Dzire met with an accident at 7.45 pm.

According to the police, Kiran lost control of the vehicle, which hit the centre median, went over to the other side of road and collided with an oncoming tipper truck. The SP was seated in the front.

While the driver died on the spot, the SP was declared brought dead at the Rajarajeshwari Hospital. The driver’s body had to be extricated from the mangled remains of the vehicle. The postmortem will be conducted at Rajarajeshwari Hospital.

The Kumbalgodu police have registered a case and seized the truck. The truck was on its way from Bidadi to Bengaluru, police said.

Ravi, a native of Sasalu in Doddaballapur taluk, got married a year ago. His wife, Anita, had given birth to a girl only eight days ago. Kiran, a CAR constable, was a resident of Hassan.

Ravi was a postgraduate in English and had served as a lecturer before joining the police department. He joined the services as DySP in 2008 after clearing the Gazetted Probationary Officers’ recruitment exams conducted by the KPSC.

He had served as ACP in Mangaluru, Bengaluru and Belagavi before being promoted as SP. He was posted in Mysuru for the past 18 months.
