Cong releases fresh list of 38 candidates for LS polls

Congress on Saturday night announced the candidature of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan from Nanded Lok Sabha seat.

Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat will be in the fray from Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar, while media professional-turned-politician Manish Khanduri will test the electoral waters from Garhwal Lok Sabha seat.

Manish, who joined the Congress last week, is the son of BJP veteran and former Chief Minister B C Khanduri.

These names figure in the list of 38 candidates released by Congress on late Saturday night.

Uttarakhand Congress President Pritam Singh will contest from Tehri Garhwal.

Former Lok Sabha member Meenakshi Natarajan has been fielded from Mandsour in Madhya Pradesh, while sitting MP Kantilal Bhuria will be in the fray from Ratlam.

Industrialist Mahesh Pathak will be in the fray from Mathura against sitting BJP MP Hema Malini.

Haryanvi singer Sapna Choudhary, who joined the Congress on Saturday was being speculated as a probable candidate for the Mathura seat.

Senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi will contest from Amroha in UP, while Kavita Singh, from the Chhattarpur royal family, will contest the Khajuraho seat in Madhya Pradesh.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digivijaya Singh will contest from Bhopal, a seat Congress has never won for the last 30 years.

With the release of the eighth list, Congress has declared candidates on 218 Lok Sabha seats so far.
